Thief eludes police

HOUSTON—Houston police are searching for a theft suspect who escaped capture after leading police on a chase before crashing in northwest Houston early Monday.
An HPD unit attempted to pull over the suspect on 34th near TC Jester shortly after 1 a.m., but he refused to stop.
The suspect sped through the Casa Nube apartments and came upon a wooden and chain link fence bordering Spring Hill apartments, but that did not stop him.
Police said the suspect smashed through the fence, hit a dumpster, then smashed through another fence before crashing. Two vehicles in the apartments were damaged after the suspect crashed. An SUV in the parking lot was damaged by the first fence and a car was hit by the dumpster.
The suspect then hopped out, fled on foot and remains at large.
